Well obviously, I missed your birthday, but that is not usual for me, Happy belated one Bill. I have been reading your book starting yesterday, Drew's was first it was shorter, did not even talk to you as you always were talking to someone but now, I am having a hard time putting it down but wanted to acknowledge it's quite a read as I venture into your life and have had quite a few SMH moments so far.
Well 2nd day and I have finished your book, it was a great interesting read, going to see if my cousin Kent Johnson might want a good read as plane's are right up his alley and wish you had signed it Bill. Thank you.
Wow, I had no idea of was going on in your house, and I was only a block away from you. I remember walking to South Side Grade School with you. As you know I certainly had a totally different home environment.
Since you left Geneseo, your accomplishments, the people you have met and the places you have traveled to. Congratulations! I couldn't put the book down, just couldn't wait to see what was next. Who were the people that you would meet or where you would be traveling to next? I especially liked the line about a slice of ham, so thin it only had one side. It is a terrific book! Thanks for writing it, I know what it takes to get published. Take care, your former neighbor.
First, I want to say that I am so happy you got your book finished and proud to have helped influence your inspiration to complete the writing.
The vulnerability and willingness to talk about what your life was like growing up is what speaks to me and inspires me the most to see the adventure you were able to turn your life into.
To me the book is a nonstop adventure of inspiring stories of meeting incredible individuals and developing some of the world's best aviation hospitality companies in corporate aviation with touching personal stories that I was happy you shared. I was able to read the book in a matter of days and loved that it is written as a way to inspire others while offering a perfect introduction into what corporate aviation and hospitality should be.
"It Ain't Just About Planes" is a time capsule of the author's private life (the good, the bad, and the ugly), as well as a fascinating look into the fascinating world of corporate aviation, where employment means you can hang out with the rich and famous. Having spent my entire career servicing corporate aircraft. I can attest to the accuracy of Bill Blackford's description of this secret world...a world where a guy like me, who fueled airplanes for a living, was able to meet movie stars, rock stars, business executives, cabinet members, and U.S. presidents on a daily basis. This book brought back so many memories, I truly enjoyed reliving those times. It is a great read!
This must be a must read for anyone who has been told to forget their dream and settle for a mundane and settle for a humble life. The author achieved a dream that his detractors thought impossible. His childhood was awful, but he persevered and became a pilot. Over his career he met and became friends with numerous celebrities. This is a definitely a good read.
